What Really Happens in Your First Acting Class (And Why Adults Keep Coming Back)

6/25/2025

Let’s be honest — the idea of walking into an acting class as an adult sounds exciting and absolutely terrifying. You imagine someone handing you a script, asking you to cry on cue, and then announcing, “Now make it funny.”

Nope. That’s not what we do here.

At TripleForce Academy, our adult acting classes are built for real people — nervous beginners, curious creatives, people who’ve never set foot on a stage (or haven’t since high school). You don’t need experience. You just need a little guts, a little curiosity, and about 75 minutes on a Saturday morning.

So if you're wondering what actually happens in your first class — here’s the real deal.

1. You Walk In a Little Anxious — and That’s Normal

Almost everyone shows up to their first class feeling unsure. Some are excited. Some are sweating through their shirt. One of our students once walked in, turned right back around, and had to take a breath in the hallway. (She came back. She crushed it.) No one gets judged for being nervous. We expect it. We welcome it. The room is full of adults doing something bold, maybe for the first time in a long time — that energy becomes part of the magic.

2. We Don’t Throw You on Stage — We Ease You In

The first day isn’t about “performing” — it’s about getting comfortable in the space, meeting your instructor, and doing a few simple warm-ups.

You’ll:

  • Learn how the 8-week class is structured

  • Meet your fellow classmates (many of whom are just as scared and excited as you)

  • Play easy, low-stakes games that help you loosen up and laugh

No pressure. No spotlight. No one asking you to “be a tree.”

3. You’ll Start Finding Your Voice — Literally

We work on:

  • Vocal warm-ups (yes, you’ll feel silly — that’s part of the fun)

  • Confidence-building exercises (so your words land with intention)

  • Movement basics (so your body isn’t frozen on stage)

You’ll start to notice how much your posture, tone, and even breath affect your presence — not just on stage, but in everyday life.

4. You’ll Read (But You Won’t Be Thrown to the Wolves)

Sometime in the first or second class, we’ll hand you a short scene — and we’ll walk through it together. You won’t be asked to “act” right away. We focus on:

  • Understanding what’s happening in the scene

  • Exploring how to connect with a character

  • Working with a partner (in a way that feels collaborative, not scary)

You’ll discover that acting isn’t about being “dramatic” — it’s about being present and responding honestly.

5. You’ll Laugh, Mess Up, Try Again, and Start to Loosen Your Grip

You’ll laugh — a lot. Sometimes at yourself, sometimes at the class, sometimes because you just did something weird with your voice and it felt good. You’ll mess up. And realize it’s not a big deal.
You’ll start to let go of the idea of getting it right — and start to enjoy the process. That’s where the real shift happens.

6. You’ll Go Home Feeling Nervous-Excited… and You’ll Want to Come Back

Something unlocks in that first class. Not for everyone right away — but for most, it’s enough to keep them coming back. By week 3, people are bringing snacks and inside jokes. By week 6, they’re helping each other rehearse. By week 8, they’re on stage, doing something they never thought they could.

💬 What Our Students Say

“I didn’t know what to expect — I was scared and nervous. But the atmosphere was so supportive and fun. I didn’t just learn about acting... I grew as a person. I’ve come a long way with my self-esteem, and I’m even thinking about auditioning now. Sign up — you won’t regret it.”

-Amy Daniel

"Being in Chip’s acting classes for almost two years has been a wonderful experience. Chip shares his acting knowledge and experience by combining lecture with practice. His style of giving feedback and instruction is always presented in a positive, encouraging and supportive way, so his students feel confident enough to try new techniques and grow as actors. He has a great personality that is very welcoming which makes his classes a lot of fun."
